Under the aegis of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), NSDL Database Management Limited (NDML) has been carrying on various social welfare programs that have meaningful yet sustainable impact on the communities. The Company undertakes need based CSR projects/programs in line with its CSR policy and thematic areas.

The CSR Action Plan consisting need based projects are recommended and approved by the CSR Committee and the Board of NDML. NDML strives to be one of the most active organization in terms of social contribution in the depository segment in India hence, the CSR is one of the key avenues to remain connected to the community and be a responsible business by aligning our growth with the development of the society at large. At NDML, we believe in constant engagement with the communities to understand the need and accordingly designing and delivering the project. We adopt a participatory multi-stakeholder approach that involves extensive engagement with all key stakeholders.

The below mentioned CSR projects are recommended and approved by the Governing Board of NDML. It is also recommended that in case of any unspent funds out of proposed CSR programs/projects, the CSR Committee shall recommend the alternate programs/projects/activities in pursuance to CSR policy to be undertaken to utilize such unspent funds. The Board may consider and approve such alternative programs/projects/initiatives in a particular FY, if the same are complying with the CSR policy and rules.

Project YOGDAAN

(Healthcare Support to Thalassemia Patients)

Project Details

Since last 6 years, NDML has been working for the cause of Thalassemia by providing healthcare support to the patients suffering from life threatening disease. NDML provides free bed-side Leukocyte Filters and yearly DXA Scan and Cardiac & Liver T2* MRI investigations to underprivileged Thalassemia patients. The use of bed-side Leukocyte Filters helps in reducing Febrile Reaction and thereby decreases allergic reactions during blood transfusions. Moreover, NDML has been supporting DXA Scan and Cardiac & Liver T2* MRI tests for underprivileged Thalassemia patients to diagnose life threatening risks of iron overload on critical organs which may cause damage to body parts like the heart, liver, pituitary and pancreas during blood transfusions. In current FY, NDML along with its holding company NSDL shall benefit around 316 Thalassemia patients who belong to poor socio-economic background in Mumbai and suburban areas.

Project Objective

To support underprivileged Thalassemia patients through preventive, diagnostic and curative measures by providing the essential medical devices and diagnostic services.

Comprehensive Eye Care Project for People Engaged in Unorganized Occupations/Sectors

Project Details

NDML has been organizing free comprehensive eye care camps for underprivileged people who are engaged in unorganized occupations/sectors including agriculture. In last three years, NDML has conducted eye care programs for 1480+ beneficiaries who belong to poor socio-economic background and engaged in unorganized sectors/occupations. Post eye screening, the beneficiaries are provided with spectacles for daily occupational activities based on their need and diagnosis.


In FY 2024-25, NDML shall execute the comprehensive eye care project in the identified districts of Tamil Nadu namely, Chennai, Salem, Nagapattinam, Chengalpattu, Karur, Kanchipuram, Dharmapuri, Vilupuram, Krishnagiri, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, Viruthunagar, Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Nilgiris, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Madurai, Mayiladuthurai, Trichirappalli, Thiruvannamalai, Vellore, Thanjavur, Thiruvallur, etc. The community camps shall be organized in the villages/towns/areas within in and around these locations. The project includes thorough visual task analysis of the beneficiaries followed by comprehensive eye examination and spectacle distribution. NDML to execute the project in association with Medical Research Foundation (MRF). Further, MRF shall implement the project through its clinical unit named as ‘Sankara Nethralaya’ which is based out of Chennai.

Project Objective

The objective is to conduct comprehensive eye check-up for underprivileged community people and thereby making quality eye care services accessible and available for all.

Project Beneficiaries

Under this project, NDML shall serve the marginalized community people engaged in unorganized occupation/sector such as sculptors, hair dressers, drivers, welders, fishermen, weavers, tailors, jewellery makers, salt-pan workers, farmers and people engaged in allied agricultural sectors, etc. Around 950+ beneficiaries to be impacted in current FY.

Mid-Day-Meal Project for School Students

Program Details

With a view to enhance school enrolment, retention and improvement in classroom attendance of students as well as improving the nutritional status of the malnourished students, the Government of India launched the National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP-NSPE) popularly known as Mid-Day Meal programme in 1995. The major objective of mid-day meal program is to make nutritious food to students leading to better health status and thereby to enhance the enrolment of students in schools and encouraging them to attend school more regularly and help them concentrate on classroom activities. NDML in association with Akshaya Patra Foundation has been providing nutritious mid-day-meals to the students in government schools. Mid-day-meals have played a pivotal role in curbing the drop-out ratio and enhancing classroom attendance in the schools as these meals are the only nutritious food that students get in a day.


In current FY, NDML in association with Akshaya Patra Foundation shall be serving around 304920 mid-day-meals to around 1540 students in identified government schools in Panvel, Bengaluru and Visakhapatnam.


With this initiative, we strive to promote education as well as ensure nutrition for the school students.

Program Objective

The major objectives of mid-day meal scheme are to make nutritious food to students leading to better health status.


To develop grasping prowess of students by improving the nutrition level, to enhance the enrolment of students in schools and encouraging needy students, belonging to disadvantaged sections, to attend school more regularly and help them concentrate on classroom activities.

Program Beneficiaries

The school going students from government schools to be covered under this project. The concentration is majorly from lower socio-economic background, underprivileged and disadvantaged students from marginalized section of the society where mid-day-meal are their only source of meal in a day which supports them with required nutrients for healthy growth. NDML shall be catering to approx. 21 schools in Panvel, Bengaluru and Visakhapatnam covering around 1540 students.

Skill Development for Youth in Association with Tata Community Initiatives Trust (Tata Strive)

Project Details

NDML has been conducting various skill development projects especially in BFSI sector for the youth from marginalized communities. Post training, the youth are provided with employment or self-employment opportunities for livelihood generation. The deserving youth are identified and trained on sector specific skills depending upon their need and inclination. The sector specific training curriculum designed as per industry demand is being used for imparting training to deserving candidates from poor socio-economic background.

For current FY 2024-25, NDML in association with Tata Community Initiatives Trust (TCIT) shall train the underserved youth from marginalized communities on BFSI as well as other sectors such as healthcare, retail, automobile, etc. The candidates shall be trained on livelihood-linked job roles such as General Duty Assistant (Healthcare Sector), Business Development Executive (BFSI Sector) and Retail Sales Associate (Retail sector).


The training program includes a classroom training followed by OJT/internship as per the course demand. Additionally, there is a specialized training on soft skills and digital skills. The program includes various phases such as beneficiaries’ mobilization, counselling, training, assessment, certification, livelihood linkages, etc. Post training, the candidates shall be provided with employment or self-employment opportunities.

Project Objective

To Create highly skilled & professional workforce to serve Industry demands for employment of a thriving industry locally and to transform youth into an employee/ entrepreneur through behavioural change, knowledge acquisition and skill development.

Project Beneficiaries

NDML shall be serving the candidates between age group of 18 to 35 years with a special focus on underserved youth. Around 65 candidates shall be trained on sector specific job roles.

Project Yogdaan

Chalo School Chale

(school kit distribution drive)

Program Details

Under this project, NDML provides a complete school kit including stationery items to the underprivileged students from the targeted government recognized schools. NDML along with its holding company NSDL, have developed a comprehensive school kit consisting of all essential school stationery items including bag to fulfil the annual school stationery requirement of the students. Moreover, the school kits are customized as per the STD/Grades of the students wherein the contents are modified to suit each and every student. NDML reaches out to the most needy students from govt aided/govt recognized schools especially, from rural or tribal belts of India. During FY 2023-24, NDML to distribute 2987 school kits to the underprivileged students from Mumbai and adjacent suburban areas like Thane and Dombivali in Maharashtra.

Project Objective

To promote education amongst students from poor socio-economic background and thereby school enrolment and classroom attendance. Alternatively, to reduce the financial burden of the parents in procuring school stationery items.

Project Beneficiaries

The students from poor financial background who are attending the govt recognized/govt aided schools or schools run by trusts/community organizations are covered in this drive.  Around 2987 students studying between 1st STD – 10th STD to be benefitted.

Comprehensive Eye Care Project for Unorganized Occupations/Sectors

Program Details

NDML conducts free comprehensive eye care camps for underprivileged people who are engaged in unorganized occupations/sectors including agriculture. In last two years, NDML has conducted eye care programs for 600+ beneficiaries who belong to poor socio-economic background and engaged in unorganized sectors/occupations such as agriculture, salt-pan workers, etc. Post eye screening, the beneficiaries are provided with spectacles for daily occupational activities based on their need and diagnosis.


In FY 2023-24, NDML shall execute the comprehensive eye care project in the identified districts of Tamil Nadu namely, Chennai, Changalpattu, Kanchipuram, Vilupuram, Nagapattinam, Karur, Dharmapuri, Sriviliputhur, Thoothukudi, etc. The community camps shall be organized in the villages/towns/areas within in and around these locations. Mid-Day-Meal Project for School Students

Project Details

There is a need to bridge the gap in nutritional component, enrolment and attendance leading to better learning and growth of the students. India has large number of students still out of school and one of the world’s highest demographics of children suffering from malnutrition. Since 2022, NDML in association with Akshaya Patra Foundation has been providing nutritious mid-day-meals to the students in government schools. Mid-day-meals have played a pivotal role in curbing the drop-out ratio and enhancing classroom attendance in the schools as these meals are the only nutritious food that students get in a day. In current FY, NDML in association with Akshaya Patra Foundation, shall be serving around 1,52,460 mid-day-meals to around 770 students in the identified government schools in Panvel (Maharashtra), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). With this initiative, we strive to promote education as well as ensure nutrition for the school students.

Establishing IT Lab at Tata STRIVE Skill Development Centre in Association with Tata Community Initiatives Trust

Project Details

NDML has been conducting various skill development projects especially in BFSI sector for the youth from marginalized communities. Further, the youth are provided with employment or self-employment opportunities post training. The deserving youth are identified and trained on sector specific skills depending upon their need and inclination. The skill development initiatives are carried out under the flagship program, ‘Artha SAMARTH’. The candidates are mobilized, trained and certified on these skill sets. For current FY 2023-24, NDML shall establish an IT lab in Tata Strive Skills Development Centre (TSSDC) in Airoli, Navi Mumbai. This initiative shall be executed in association with Tata Community Initiatives Trust (TCIT) which is formed by Tata Sons in 2014. TCIT runs skill development centres across India to address the pressing need of skilling India’s youth for employment, entrepreneurship and community enterprise. This skill development and livelihood generation program is being executed under the name of Tata STRIVE which is an initiative of TCIT. The existing training centre offers around 10 courses across different sectors. The training modules/curriculum is mapped to the National Occupation Standards and Qualification Packs given by Ministry of Skill Development and Employment. Further, the advancement is training curriculum is done basis industry demand and the same is done in consultation with industry experts. This adds value to the training program and ensures the livelihood backed training for the candidates.

Project Objective

NDML in association with TCIT shall be establishing an IT lab to support its existing skill centre in Airoli. Digital literacy being an integral component of Tata Strive, the IT lab shall enable practical and experiential training to youth across 10 different courses which are offered for underserved youth in the centre at Airoli.


The project objective is to

The IT lab shall be equipped with advanced computer systems and software to provide experiential learning to the candidates. It is expected to serve around 800 direct beneficiaries and 2400 indirect beneficiaries (being family members) in a year. Post training, the candidates are provided with employment/self-employment linkages for livelihood generation.

IT Lab Creation in Association with NJ Charitable Trust in Udhna and Navsari

Project Details

NDML has been conducting various skill development projects especially in BFSI sector for the youth from marginalized communities. Further, the youth are provided with employment or self-employment opportunities post training. The deserving youth are identified and trained on sector specific skills depending upon their need and inclination. The skill development initiatives are carried out under the flagship program, ‘Artha SAMARTH’. The candidates are mobilized, trained and certified on these skill sets.

For current FY 2023-24, NDML intends to establish an IT lab in N J Learning Centre at Udhna and Navsari (Gujarat) in association with NJ Charitable Trust (NJCT). NJCT executes skilling program through its implementation arm, NJ Charitable Foundation (NJCF). A specialized project called as ‘Scholar Special Coaching Program’ at its centres in Udhna and Navsari. Under this program, the underprivileged students are nurtured and mentored sthroughout their academic journey from Grade 1 until they gain employability skills especially, professional skills such as CA, CS, Law and JEE, NEET, etc. Every year, around 80-90 marginalized students are enrolled in Grade 1 and Grade 5 and further provided with remedial education and life skills throughout their academic. Post higher secondary education, the students are mentored for obtaining professional employability skills such as CS, CA, JEE, NEET, Law, etc. The remedial education is imparted with subject experts and simplified e-learning method.

s NDML’s intervention by creating IT lab at Udhna and Navsari helps the aspiring students to prepare for JEE/NEET/CA/CS. The lab would also help the students between Grade 1- Grade 12 in accessing e-learning content as per their academic syllabus and enhance their digital skills. The content in the form of audio-video lectures is uploaded on the desktops and laptops along with Grade wise practice tests for the students.

Project Objective

IT Lab is primarily aimed for the aspirants of JEE, NEET, CA, CS, CLAT, etc. The lab would also be used for the students between Grade 1- Grade 12 to access e-learning content as per the academic syllabus and to gain digital skills. The students enrolled in Scholar Special Coaching Program belong to lower household income categories and they are enrolled in the NJCF learning centre post a thorough screening procedure. Since, the primary users for IT Lab are JEE, CA, CS, CLAT, NEET aspirants, currently there are 36 students who are undergoing Scholar Special Coaching Program.

Project ARTHA SAMARTH

(A skill development initiative by NSDL)

Project Details

  • The program covers training on various BFSI sector specific job roles such as Mutual Fund Distributors, Business Correspondent- Business Facilitator, Insurance Agents or any other BFSI sector specific job roles. The Company also imparts the training pertaining to other sectors such as Health, Hospitality, Retail, Travel or any other sector which require skilled workforce.
  • The comprehensive training modules to be used for sector specific training.
  • Mutual Fund Distributors training program is based on NISM’s Series V-A module while BC-BF Operations training program is developed on the basis of IIBF’s curriculum.
  • The program gives the opportunity to the candidates to earn additional income along with their current work / activity.
  • In case of BC-BF Operations training, the program is named as “NSDL Certificate Course in BC-BF Operations (Artha SAMARTH)”.
  • In case of Mutual Fund Distributors training, the program is named as “NSDL Certificate Course in Mutual Fund Distributors (Artha SAMARTH)”.
  • The Company facilitates the livelihood linkages through employment or self-employment for the beneficiaries post training.

Project Objective

To impart employable and livelihood linked skills to the deserving underprivileged youth and thereby create a skilled workforce in relevant sector.

Project Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries are identified and enrolled depending upon the sector and industry demands. The unemployed graduates or post graduates, college drop-outs, graduates/post graduates with prior work experience, youth engaged in informal/unorganized sector, etc. are enrolled in the sector specific training programs.


For BFSI sector specific skills training, NDML reaches out to graduates/post graduates, self-employed youth in BFSI sector, housewives, self-help groups, unemployed youth, emerging or aspiring entrepreneurs, post office agents, etc. Apart from this, NDML also reaches out to the different categories of candidates such as low income earning entrepreneurs, IFAs, BCs or CSPs, etc. for imparting BFSI sector specific skills training.

Project Location

Training programs to be conducted at the strategic locations especially, within the vicinity of NSDL’s regional office/branches namely, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi. The Company also reaches out to the other locations, rural areas and Tier I & II cities for conducting the training sessions depending upon the need. The web based/online training programs are conducted PAN India.

Program Details

Under this program, NDML provides a complete school kit including stationery items to the underprivileged students from the government schools, government recognized schools, partially aided schools, community schools/centres, schools run by trust/community organizations.

Program Objective

To promote education amongst students from poor socio-economic background, NSDL has launched a mega school kit distribution drive across various locations in India.

Program Beneficiaries

The organization intends to reach out to more than 6000 students under this campaign. The students from financial weaker sections of the society shall be targeted.

Eye Check-up Camps and Preventive & Curative Eye Care for Underprivileged Communities

Project Details

Eye Screening Camps for community people especially, farmers, salt pan workers and people engaged in allied agricultural sector. Post eye screening camps, the spectacles are provided to the beneficiaries based on their need. This project is being executed in association with Medical Research Foundation which has a clinical unit named as ‘Sankara Nethralaya’ based out of Chennai.

Project Objective

The objective is to conduct eye check-up camps for the saltpan workers and farmers across the state of Tamil Nadu. Post comprehensive eye examination, the beneficiaries are provided with the spectacles for their activities of Daily Living.

Project Beneficiaries

Under this initiative, the Company shall be serving less-privileged community people such as farmers, salt pan workers and people engaged in agricultural allied services. Post camps, the spectacles shall be provided to the beneficiaries based on their need.

Nutrition Program for School Students

Program Details

NSDL and its subsidiaries to sponsor Mid-Day-Meal for the students in government schools in association with Akshaya Patra Foundation. The schools shall be identified in association with the Akshaya Patra Foundation in and around the vicinity of NSDL and NDML locations.

Program Objective

The major objective of program is to make nutritious food for children leading to better health status. To develop grasping prowess of children by improving the nutrition level, to enhance the enrolment of children in schools and encouraging needy children, belonging to disadvantaged sections, to attend school more regularly and help them concentrate on classroom activities.

Program Beneficiaries

The organization caters to the students from government schools. Around 2000 students to be provided with mid-day-meals in identified schools of Thane and Bengaluru.

Project SAMEIP

(Skill development initiative for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) under NSDL’s Artha SAMARTH project)

Project Details

  • NDML has been conducting various skill development projects in BFSI sector for the youth who have potentials to serve the sector through employment or self-employment mode. The skill development projects are carried out by NSDL & NDML under their flagship project, ‘Artha SAMARTH’. Through this project, the companies impart BFSI sector skills such as BC-BF, Mutual Fund Distributors, Insurance Agents, Banking Operations, etc. followed by livelihood linkages for the trained candidates.
  • Aligning to the existing Artha SAMARTH project, NSDL & NDML has initiated a special skill development and employability project for Persons with Disabilities (PwD). Project SAMEIP (i.e. SBI Foundation and Microsoft India Employability Initiative for Persons with Disabilities) is a collaborative initiative of SBI Foundation and Microsoft India. The project to be executed in association with SBI Foundation (SBIF).
  • PwDs shall be trained on BFSI and IT sector specific job roles/skills with the help of specialized trainers and industry experts.
  • The companies to empower PwDs by enabling livelihood through skill development and to promote PwD inclusion amongst employers of India.
    • (SDG) #8 is about decent work and economic growth and aims “to achieve full and productive employment, and decent work, for all women and men by 2030.”
    • SDG #10 is about reduced inequalities and aims “to empower lower income earners, and promote economic inclusion of all regardless of sex, race or ethnicity.”
    • SDG #17 is about partnerships for the goals and aims “to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.”

Project Objective

  • Enabling the BFSI ecosystem in India to become more disability inclusive through collaborative engagement and result-oriented advocacy;
  • Facilitating long-term career development of young persons with disabilities and provide multi-dimensional project support with a holistic approach which includes skilling, upskilling, employment and post placement retention support.
  • Institutionalization of the project through advocacy with government and other philanthropy partners for adoption.

Project Beneficiaries

The project will create career pathways for 375 youth with disabilities in the BFSI and IT sector across Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The project will also provide employment linkages as well as post placement retention support post training.

Project ARTHA SAMARTH

Program Location

Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi. The online training programs are conducted across India.

Program Details

  • The program covers training on Mutual Fund Distributor Certification offered by NISM.
  • NDML identifies deserving candidates such as self-employed youth, Insurance Agents and provides free training on NISM’s Series V-A Mutual Fund Distributions Certification.
  • Post training, the Company also facilitates in NISM examination and getting ARN for successful candidates.
  • The training program is followed by the NISM exam and ARN registration. Once the ARN registration is over, NDML also provides relevant platforms to the candidates for livelihood generation.

Project ARTHA SAMARTH

(A skill development initiative in BFSI sector) - Training Program on BC-BF Operations

Program Objective

To impart employable and livelihood linked skills to the youth and thereby create a skilled workforce in BFSI sector.

Beneficiaries

NDML reaches out to different categories of candidates such as unemployed youth, self-employed youth, low income earning / fresh IFAs or IFAs with a low volume of business, emerging or aspiring entrepreneurs, etc.

Program Details

The program covers training on BC-BF Operations based on IIBF’s curriculum. This program gives candidates the opportunity to earn additional income along with their current work / activity.

NSDL SHIKSHA SAHYOG

(An educational scholarship project)

Project Objective

NSDL SHIKSHA SAHYOG is an educational scholarship project initiated with the aim to support underprivileged bright students who lack adequate financial resources to continue their academic studies. A lot of capable students often fail to fulfil their dreams of education due to poor financial conditions. The need for scholarships is compelling and critical for our students more than ever before.

Beneficiaries

The deserving students are identified and shortlisted as per scholarship categories based on eligibility criteria. The scholarships are awarded to deserving students in different categories such as 8th to 12th STD, Undergraduate, Post Graduate students who are shortlisted as per the eligibility criteria.

Project Details

This project endeavours to bridge the gap between bright students and the right education by providing financial support in the form of scholarships. Through this project, NDML intends to reduce the dropout rate of students from economically weaker sections of society and help them continue with their academic studies.

Project YOGDAAN

(Support to Thalassemia Patients)

Program Objective

To support underprivileged Thalassemia patients through preventive and curative measures by providing essential medical devices and healthcare services.

Beneficiaries

Underprivileged Thalassemia Patients from MCGM’s Sion Hospital and Borivali Thalassemia Day Care Centre.

Program Details

NDML provides free bed-side Leukocyte Filters and yearly DXA Scan and Cardiac & Liver T2* MRI investigations to underprivileged Thalassemia patients. The use of bed-side Leukocyte Filters helps in reducing Febrile Reaction and thereby decreases allergic reactions during blood transfusions. Moreover, NDML has been supporting DXA Scan and Cardiac & Liver T2* MRI tests for underprivileged Thalassemia patients to diagnose life threatening risks of iron overload which may cause damage to body parts like the heart, liver, pituitary and pancreas during blood transfusions.

Project SAHYOG

(Disaster Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program)

Program Objective

NDML initiated a disaster relief program called as ‘Project SAHYOG’ to support communities in distress at the time of natural calamities or disaster or pandemic. The program encompasses disaster relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

Beneficiaries

This is a need based program which is initiated to support the community people during any sort of distress situation. NDML has provided support during Kerala floods and also initiated support campaigns during COVID 19 pandemic.

Program Details

NDML conducts campaigns with the objective to support society during any sort of natural calamity or national emergency or during any sort of distress situation. Under project SAHYOG, NDML conducts relief activities in the area of health, sanitation, education, hunger or any other area which requires urgent attention and support during traumatic situations caused during natural calamities or national emergency or pandemic situations like COVID 19. During COVID 19 pandemic, NDML had executed various campaigns and activities such as distribution of testing kits, relief materials, PPE kits, sanitizers, medicines, contribution to Government Relief Funds.
